2007–2008 District Goals and Objectives
ROTARY, our organization has the potential to accomplish much. To
do so we must focus our efforts, set goals and work to accomplish
them. Anything is possible if we develop a plan, concentrate our
energy and set our minds to it. I am asking you as members and
leaders of your clubs to ratchet up your ROTARY activities this year
and in doing so we can accomplish the following District Goals and
Objectives:
• Each member and each club to do a little more than they did
last year by engaging in another project, contributing a greater
amount to the Foundation, expanding their community help programs,
etc.
• Our District to become the #1 District in Membership in North
America. This requires recruiting a net of two members per club,
thereby giving our district 5300 members.
• Every member to share Rotary by personally sponsoring a new
member. RI President Wilf Wilkenson has challenged every president
to personally sponsor a new member and I extend that challenge to
all members, as well as Assistant Governors and Past District
Governors.
• Our District’s members to open their heart and pocketbook to
the Rotary Foundation by collectively giving $380,000; about $75 for
each district Rotarian. Foundation contributions may be made by
Electronic Funds Transfer, $100 donations, club fundraisers, pocket
petty cash collections, estate planning and other methods.
• Our District to undertake a new program of Friendship Exchange.
Surprisingly, our district has never embarked on these exciting
travel and visitation possibilities.
• Our Rotarians and clubs, as hosts, to welcome the Group Study
Exchange team from District 4670, Rio Grande du Sol, Brazil in
September 2007. Likewise, we need to recruit good ambassadors to
represent us in Brazil.
• Every club to recruit the Family of Rotary. Past RYLA
attendees, former scholarship recipients, past GSE team members,
past youth exchange members, Rotaract and Interact members all know
the principals of Rotary and would make ideal and strong members.
• Every Member and every club to use the Publicity Committee’s
tools to promote the good works and expand the good will of our
great organization.
• Our members to expand the reach of Rotary by forming at least
two new clubs in our district in 2007–2008. There are growing areas
where Rotary needs representation and all of us should strive to
find and organize clubs in those areas.
• Our clubs to continue to endorse and promote our existing
projects. Water wells, wheelchairs, vision programs, literacy and
dictionary projects and others are building blocks for a better
world.
• Every club to strengthen their leadership from within by
choosing strong leaders and by insisting that they learn their
Rotary job by attendance at PETS and the District Assembly.
• Every club to apply for and receive Foundation Grants. Our
district will award a record number of District Simplified Grants
(on a first come first serve basis) for worthy community projects
and likewise will have funds available for creative matching grants.
• Every club to achieve the Presidential citation. This easily
obtained certificate recognizes clubs with balanced objectives.
• Clubs to introduce Rotary to Youth by forming 4 new Rotaract
Clubs. Every college and university has the potential for Youth
Community Service.
Rotary has enormous potential to do good in our world. I urge and
challenge every Rotarian to learn of that potential and to find
creative ways to exploit the potential to build a better world. As
District Governor, I look forward to working together with each
local club and each Rotarian in our great district to make our year
the best that our district has ever experienced. The targets listed
above will guide our efforts throughout the year as we strive to
meet the significant challenges found within this year’s Rotary
Presidential Theme: “ROTARY SHARES.”
