Peggy George – Rotary
Biography
Peggy George has been a
member of Southeast Tulsa’s Rotary Club since 1988. She was the first
woman Rotarian inducted into Southeast Rotary. She served on their
Board of Directors as Club Service Director, Secretary, President
Elect, President, and Past President before becoming District 6110’s
first woman Assistant Governor, where she served for four years. She
is also the first woman to be named Governor of her District. Peggy
was editor of Southeast Rotary’s newsletter for six years and chaired
many committees and projects for the club. She was named their
“Outstanding Rotarian of the Year” in 1996. Peggy has 16 years of
perfect attendance and is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and a
Benefactor. In 2003, Peggy was part of a Rotaplast team, which
traveled to Romania to perform plastic surgery on children and youth
affected with cleft lip and cleft palate. This experience led her to
arrange a GSE project with that country for the upcoming year, when
District 6110 will host a Romanian team at our 2006 District
Conference in Tulsa.
Peggy attended the University of Tulsa, majoring in Journalism with
emphasis in Advertising and Public Relations. She was employed with
KTUL-TV, the ABC affiliate in Tulsa for three years in production and
programming areas before moving to Oral Roberts University in Tulsa,
where she was General Manager of Traco, Inc., their in-house media and
promotion agency. As GM, she was responsible for program placement and
national promotion for the weekly television and radio programs and
quarterly prime-time specials. She was Associate Director for their
television programming and worked with many entertainment
personalities including Johnny Cash, Jerry Lewis, Pearl Bailey, Mel
Torme, Minnie Pearl, and Roy Clark in the production of their
prime-time specials.
Following a 12-year career at ORU, Peggy established her advertising
agency, Peggy George & Associates, which she operated for 16 years.
Active in media throughout her career, Peggy has served as President
of the Tulsa Chapter of American Women in Radio and Television and the
Tulsa Advertising Federation. She was awarded the Silver Addy in 1996
as Tulsa’s Outstanding Advertising Executive.
Her son Doug, resides in Bentonville, AR and is an information systems
specialist with Wal-Mart. Son Mark operates his own company,
Industrial Fiberglass Systems, in Washington, New Jersey. Peggy has
five grandchildren. She is a very active member of Asbury United
Methodist in Tulsa where she teaches, sings in the chancel choir and
rings with two handbell choirs, the Asbury Ringers and the Celebration
Ringers. She has a passion for the blood donor program and has donated
more than 128 pints of blood to date. |
