District Governor Visits Claremore Reveille Rotary
Rotary District Governor, A.C. Moncrief and wife Doris met with the Reveille Rotary club recently to share domestic and international service plans for the coming year. Herb Orr, Assistant District Governor and member of the Tulsa Sunrise Club, was also present.
Moncrief, a University of Arkansas graduate and former U.S. Peace Corps volunteer to Malawi Central Africa, authored the book “More Than A Game”. He has traveled to over 33 countries, speaks a little French, a little more Spanish, and is fluent in Chinyanja, a Bantu language. Of all of the wonderful life-experiences, including a successful High School Football Coach, Moncrief considers the Peace Corps and Rotary to be his life’s most stimulating and satisfying experiences. Moncrief, governs a four state district, promoting domestic and international service projects that improves lives and promotes education.
Moncrief informs Reveille members that financial tycoon; Warren Buffet and Bill Gates promote Rotary projects because Rotary is one of very few non-profit organizations where the benefactors receive 100 percent value of the funds. Overhead does not reduce the value of the funds because Rotarians themselves provide manpower to perform the service. Rotarians raise funds through Paul Harris Fellowships, an honorary membership of giving. Moncrief’s wife, all children, and all grandchildren are honorary Paul Harris Fellows.
Reveille Rotary is an energized international service organization that meets at 6:45 a.m. every Thursday at the RSU Centennial Center. International projects include a foreign-exchange student sponsorship, eradicating polio, Shoes for Orphan Souls, sponsor the drilling of water wells in Nicaragua and other foreign countries, promoting a Medical Supply Network located in Tulsa, Oklahoma that ships medical supplies worldwide, and funding of many more international-humanitarian projects.
The domestic and local projects include facilitating the Will Rogers Day Parade, promoting a Kansas City BBQ Association sanctioned competition through Boots & BBQ, sponsored local students at the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, sponsored Claremore High School ROTC presentation of colors at the U.S.S. Oklahoma Memorial in Hawaii on Pear Harbor Day, provided park benches at the Gazebo park and Claremore High School, provided a free personalized dictionary to every third grader in Rogers County, promoted a Rotary 4-way speech contest, conducted a blood drive for the collection of 245 units of blood, provided Christmas toys for Children’s Advocacy Services Agency, and promoted an All Star Baseball tournament.
The Paul Harris Foundation funds all of the above projects.
