More than 200 Rotarians from District 6110 gathered in Altus at St. Mary's Lawrence Hall June 30 for the Governor's Induction Dinner of A. C. Moncrief. Prior to the induction, tours of Post winery and St. Mary's  Catholic Church were offered.

“I am proud of this opportunity of fellowship and friendship,” A.C. Moncrief said after he was inducted as Rotary District 2009-2010 Governor. “I have come to know the district leadership and have learned that each of them has special talents. It's exciting to learn from them.”

Serving under Moncrief will be 21 assistant governors.

District 6110 is the eighth largest Rotarian District in the world serving eight counties in Kansas, nine counties in Missouri, 13 counties in Arkansas and 21 counties in Oklahoma. According to its Web site, Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto “Service Above Self.”

Ron Petersen Sr. who served as Governor from 2008-2009, said "The Rotarian who serves best profits the most. Rotary is about growth and we grow along with the club we belong to." In transferring the Governor's pin to Moncrief, Petersen noted, “He's ready, his bags are packed and he's smoking.”

Each year, governors must visit every Rotary club (individually or with several clubs at one time in the district to:
• Focus attention on important Rotary issues;
• Provide special attention to weak or struggling clubs;
• Motivate Rotarians to participate in service activities; and
• Personally recognize the outstanding contributions of Rotarians in the district.

In closing, Moncrief challenged each of the River Valley chapters to set a goal of 20% to 25% growth to set an example for the district.

"In  every football game, two plays can change the game and I know two clubs can change the district,” Moncrief said.
