Hello, my name is Chang, Chieh; or you can just
call my English name – Jenny. That’ll be easier to remember.
I’m sixteen yeas old this year; coming from
Taipei, Taiwan the 3480 district. There are four members in my
family: father, mother, younger sister and me. My father is a
professor in National Central Police University teaching Public
Administration. My mother works in National Police Administration,
Taiwan. Younger sister is like me, a student. She is two years
younger than me. We all are not Rotarian. You must be curious to
know why I come to the Youth Exchange Program? Well, the story began
from twelve years ago. At that time, there was program called GSE
standing for Group Study Exchange. My mom was a member of that group
and the leader is now the chairman of District 3480, Youth Exchange
Committee, that’s uncle Paul. In an informal conversation, uncle Paul
passed the message about YEP which makes me standing here.
A lot of people ask me why I choose USA instead
of European countries. Actually, I not only want to learn English but
also seek the opportunity to attend universities in USA in the
future. This time, I hope to build a solid base for future American
university life. Besides, I’d like to learn something special or
popular in American. Like Chinese music instrument which represents
Chinese culture, I hope to learn something symbolizing American
culture. In this way, I can get closer to American culture.
I just mentioned Taiwan is the place I come from.
It’s a beautiful island, called Formosa by Portuguese and located in
west Pacific Ocean and southern east part of Asian continent. The
Tropic of Cancer cuts through the southern part of Taiwan. Its
weather is pretty warm. Yearly average temperature is about 22oC.
In addition to appropriate location and comfortable, Taiwan has
friendly people, safe society, stable government, prosperous economy
and unique culture background. It’s really a nice place worth taking
a visit. I sincerely invite you to come to my mother town.
Finally, I would like to give my appreciation to
the enthusiastic Rotarian members like uncle……,auntie…..for arrange
these meaningful lessons and special activities. Thank you !!
