Heya Everybody!
Hows yous? Things are going great in Edinburgh. I've been so busy
lately, going to many meetings/ seminars for Rotary. Last week I had
to show two German girls around Edinburgh and then we went on a road
trip around Scotland--it was so much fun. I didn't do it for Rotary
but for my host mother--but I still had a great time.
I get to brag now-- I'm so excited, this Thursday I am going to go to
Glasgow to see the Red Hot Chilli Peppers in concert. And then on the
16th I"m going to see Tenacious D in concert, my friends and I are so
excited. Well I gotta go- cheers, Jordan |

Hey everybody!!!
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hogmanay(New Year's
Eve)! Mine was great, lots of partying with tons of friends! I'm
having such an awesome time in Edinburgh, it is the perfect
"little-big" city.
I've switched hosts(the Nelson's)and my new fam is great. They don't
have the internet though so I'm spending the night at the Cramb's (1st
host) while they are out of town. Man, New Year's Eve is like
Scotland's MAIN holiday. People from all over the world come to the
city centre, which isn't that big and there are ton of stages set-up
and tons of alcohol. I didn't go because it was a bit too dangerous
and my friends said that it was totally over rated. That wasn't the
only reason: About a week earlier an Al Quiada HQ was found about a
mile from my school, and get this, some of my school friends watched
the raid. They just thought it was a drug raid. They found a bunch
of bomb parts in the basement of the house but nobody knows a bunch
about it-- they kept it really hush, hush. London is also on a
terrorism watch-- the news here is talking about bio-warfare and the
clips on the stations are of gas-masks and everything. Personally,
I'm not worried at all. The police is just taking every precaution
for us so I trust them. I mean, they caught the bad guys, didn't
they? "Go Edinburgh's Police Dept.!!"
It's is really cold here but I doubt as bad as Fay. It is just really
damp. We hardly get any sunshine either. It's light at 8am and dark
again at 3:30pm. And during the day it is almost always overcast.
But I've gotten used to it and I don't really mind anymore.
I got to go now, Cheers, Jordan

|
It is a Monday night and I'm sitting in my room
watching TV and writing you all. Things are going great, tomorrow I'm
going to a "football" (soccer) match with a couple of friends,
Scotland vs. Canada, I think-- it is going to be really muddy though
because for the past three days it has rained non-stop. Then on Wed.
I have to do some "prefect duties"--yes I'm a "prefect"-in uniform
everyday-with the badge and everything. School is pretty good. The
classes aren't hard at all but the kids are sooo disrespectful, not
the older "senior" kids, but the younger kids, those equivalent to 9th
graders and younger. Sometimes I wish I was a guy, they don't have to
deal with sexual harassment...everyday. It gets so old, sometimes I
just want to turn around and punch these little boys, but I keep
thinking to myself--I can't stoop to their level, PLUS, they would
probably gang up and beat me up if I did (in ALL honesty).
Another thing to get off my chest: I'm so tired of getting so many
anti-American comments. Today a girl totally "dissed" the US in my
Drama class, saying that we ALL "think we are the best"-along those
lines, after a few throat clearings from fellow classmates in my
direction she discovered her HUGE mistake, she apologized, and me
being the bigger person, said it didn't offend me because I had heard
tons of things of that nature. Well you my think I'm complaining,
but I'm really just getting things off my chest. Other than a few
neg. things I'm having a great time, and I'm happy to be here. Oh and
I excited because next week I get a week off for October Holidays.
Well if any of you get any spare time feel free to write, Cheers,
Jordan

Hello from Scotland 2
|
Sept. 22, 2002
Well it's three days to my birthday, and it is going to be a bit hard
celebrating without family. All my friends are going to take me out
Wednesday and, get this, Friday as well.
I can't believe I've already been here a month and a half, I'm too
busy to keep track of time. My friends have really helped though, I
couldn't handle it without all of them. Last Friday I went out with
BB, Stef, Gemma, Heafy, John ("Fusco"), Grimmy, and Phil to "Juliane's"--an
Italian restaurant. Little did Gemma and I know, but Heafy (her
boyfriend) had arranged a birthday surprise for us at the end of the
meal (her birthday is in two weeks), well as the time came all the
lights in the restaurant went out and the "Happy Birthday" song came
on...I guess I should tell you that I only ordered a cappuchino after
the meal and they ended up bringing me this huge layered
something-or-another. This dessert was actually what Heafy had ordered
for himself so everyone had a huge laugh and I wished Heafy a Happy
Birthday....but...the little Italian guys weren't going to give up, 2
min later the lights go out again (this is the third dessert to come
out with an ontourage) and the dessert brought out goes directly in
front of Fusco, instead of me. I was dying as was everyone else at the
table, except....Heafy, because it was really MY birthday and I didn't
even get my cappuchino until I ask a few times for it. At least Heafy
let me blow out his candle.
This Saturday my "host" Uncle Alec came to town with his fiance from
South Africa. They were really nice but I was so tired after the
entire family came to town to see them.
Oh! I've been to about 3 Rotary meetings and one District Meeting,
where, Yes, I had to speak. District Conference is Oct. 25-27 in
Dundee and the next Thurs. (Halloween) I'm going to London for a Youth
Exchange Weekend, then sometime in Nov. I think I'm going to
Sterlingshire for another Youth Exchange weekend or Interact weekend
even though there are no Interact clubs in my area.
(Another) Oh! Bulldogs! Do you remember Kean Barclay (I know you do
Tim). Well he is going to college in Dundee so we got together to
catch up and he wanted me to give you all his regards.
Well I gotta be going, Cheers!

I'm really getting along with everyone in Edinburgh--I
been here for 5 weeks--and It has really flown by. The language is
pretty hard to understand I have to concentrate all the time and
sometimes I just nod and smile when people are talking to me. |

Sunday, August 25, 2002 15:47 Hello from Scotland |
Hey everyone in Fayetteville!
Edinburgh is great! The flight took forever, I left the airport at
1:30PM on a Sunday and arrive in Glasgow airport at 9:30AM (3:30AM
Fay. time) It took me for ever to get through customs and for all of
those who really know me, I couldn't go overseas without losing a bag.
Luckily it was just my bag full of presents and I got it back a few
days later. My host family is GREAT! I feel like a second daughter to
them. Kate (18) and I have become great friends and one of our
favorite things to pass the time is to torment her little brother
Robbie (15). The oldest "Cramb kid" is Finlay (20), who goes to
Edinburgh Art college. Mr. and Mrs. Cramb (who I am SUPPOSED to call
Jim and Cath...I'm talking to you mom!) are great, they are artists
and their home shows it (it is awesome).
Every school day I walk 25-30 min. to school which by the way
is eight floors high! Luckily since I'm in sixth year I get to take
the "lift" (elevator) ... when it is working and not already full,
which means I do a lot of walking and stair climbing. Oh and I forgot
to tell you, in FULL uniform. Uniform consists of wool blazer, white
shirt and school tie, black, navy, or dark grey trousers (I can't say
"pants" anymore because that means underware) or skirts for girls. The
classes are pretty easy (though everyone warned me they would be
harder), this is good though because on top of school work I'm trying
to make new friends and that is work as well. All the kids really like
me though, what is strange is that everyone in Scotland has this thing
for Americans many want to go to the US or even live there....one girl
named Lynsey even came up to me at a party and grabbed my hands and
jokingly said "I hate you, I hate you, your American, I want to be
American" I was kinda takin aback but I laugh it off with her. Anyway,
I've gotten a really warm reception at school. By the way there is
this model that is really big here (she doesn't always do decent
photos...if you know what I mean) and she is tall and blonde and named
Jordan, so of course that is a continuing joke on me.
Well I need to get to bed, something my Advanced Chemisty teacher
told us
about this Monday being the hardest for the students because during
the summer we revert to the ancient 25 hour day, he said this Monday
would be when it caught up to us, anyway GOODNIGHT everyone. --
