Country Preference Form

Overseas Adventure, Learning ... YOU?

This program is for full-year travel including school in another country, where you will be hosted by a Rotary District and Rotary Club, and live with a family or families in the nation you are visiting.

Where will I go?
At this time Rotary District 6110 has contacts for exchange in Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina, Slovak Republic, Czech Republic, Switzerland,  Germany, France, Austria, Turkey,  Hungary,  Russia, Japan, Poland, Belgium, Malaysia, India, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines , Cambodia, and possibly Sweden, Finland, Australia, Italy,  and other countries.
What does it cost?

LESS than it costs most parents to keep the student at home! There is an application fee of $175, which is non-refundable if you attend the District-level interviews.   If you are selected for the program, the cost to you and your parents would be about $3650 plus any spending money your parents choose to give you.  Some scholarship funds available for application fee, and some scholarship funds available for the exchange fee.

Students will also have such expenses as,  the expense of getting a passport, applying for a visa, and traveling to the host-country's consulate (in the USA) if an interview or an in person appearance is required as part of the visa application process.

Who Pays?
Parents - who can actually save money (as opposed to the cost of keeping the student at home) at the same time that they give their child an unparalleled "leg up" in the world! Most students can CLEP out of 8 - 28 hours of foreign language classes at the university level -- that's the equivalent of approximately $1600 - $5600 in college tuition at $200/credit hour.
How do I Apply?

First, go to our "CONTACT FORM" and email the Rotary office to indicate your interest in going on an exchange.

You can also go to the Online Interactive Application , type in your personal information, and print out the copy. We need 4 copies of your completed application -- all must have ORIGINAL signatures in BLUE ink.  You also need to download & fill out the country preference form; please complete three copies of this form.

Or, you can get a copy of the application from Paul Reagan's office or from a local Rotarian. Remember to carefully follow all instructions .

What do Host Clubs provide?
bulletMonthly stipend (varies from country to country - in the U.S. it is about $100 per month)
bulletMeals one to four times per month at Club expense
bulletCounselor, who is the student's advocate for the full year
bulletInteraction with Club members and their families
What do Host Parents provide?
bullet Family Atmosphere & Room
bullet Food
bullet Travel, if family vacation
bullet Transportation to and from school

Note: in most cases the student will be staying with two or more host families, for 3 to 6 months each.
Who Benefits?
The student, the parents sending the student abroad, the Host Parents, the Host Club, the sending country, the hosting country, the people who meet the student abroad, the people who meet the student after he or she returns home ... the whole world!
What's in it for the student?
bullet A new maturity, typically reaching the "emotional age" of someone in his or her mid-20s
bullet A new confidence in oneself and a new personal world-view
bullet Proficiency in a second language
bullet CLEP out of 8-28 credit hours of college language (a college tuition savings worth $1600-$5600, approximately!)
bullet World-wide networking! Rotarians are professional people, owners or senior managers, in business or government - Rotary Exchange Students develop life-long relationships with the most influential people in the region of the country they visit
bullet A major advantage as a natural recruit for an international company
bullet The opportunity to serve by promoting PEACE THROUGH UNDERSTANDING - our main goal!
What do those who are beginning the adventure say?
In 2007-8  we have students from our area currently studying in Chile,  Czech Republic, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland (2),  Take a  LOOK!
How can I meet and talk with some Rotary Exchange Students?

If you are interested in going there and interacting with some students and hearing them tell of their own experiences with this program, send an e-mail message to us, using our "Contact Form".  (Note: Participants would have to arrange their own travel to/from Tulsa. And, there is a weekend fee associated with this event.)
